A Decade of Journey
We are proud to state that some 127 Alumni (63,8%), out of 199 registered students within 10 years, or 7 years since this unit was forced and able to survive independently. MM Communication introduced the Advisory Board, the distinguished PR gurus from Maryland University, Dr James Grunig, Dr Don W. Stacks from University of Miami, Dr Roger Hayes, senior counsellor of APCO Worldwide.
MM Communication was established by the Rector Decree No 243/USAKTI/VIII/2005 dated August 2nd, 2005. The rst student intake in September, some 9 young professionals were registered as pioneering students. For the first two years, MM Communication was administered under the Trisakti International Business School.
The establishment of MM Communication received questioning remark from some parties due to the unique curriculum that combines Management and Communication/Public Relations. It was a real challenge to introduce a new program to the candidates, regardless the brand name of the University.
To support the academic activities, MM Communication is in collaboration with EGA briefings, a private venture, established in 2001 – to organize a public relations educational campaign, Public Relations Week Indonesia. PR Week Indonesia is blend of academic discourse and professional practice synergizing the potential of campuses, professional organizations and practitioners in Communication/ Public Relations, Marketing, Human Resource, Finance, Media, and Advertising – the related industries.
International speakers were also invited. Within the last ten years (2005-2014) Public Relations Week Indonesia has been consistently organized to update knowledge, current trends, challenges and opportunities for professionals, academia and students.
These are the themes of PR Week Indonesia
- 2005 – Building Reputation through Corporate Social Responsibility
- 2006 – Strive for Excellence in Communication
- 2007 – The Changing Landscape of Corporate Communication
- 2008 – Turning Cost Into Investment through Strategic Corporate Citizenship
and Responsible Corporation

In less than two years in operation, in April 2007, MM Communication, a new venture was decided to discontinue due to the insuf cient number of students to cover its operating costs independently. It was a real nightmare, but then turned to be the turning point for being nancially independent.
No Pain, No Gain.
Thanks to the great enthusiasm and idealism from the teaching staff, particularly the non- Trisakti staff, geared with personal networks to the communication world around the globe, MM Communication introduced the Advisory Board, the distinguished PR gurus from Maryland University, Dr James Grunig, Dr Don W. Stacks from University of Miami. Dr Roger Hayes, senior counsellor of APCO Worldwide. Locally, the nancial assistance for supporting activities outside campus came from Mr. Chadd McLisky (Indo Pacific Reputation Management), PT Freeport Indonesia, Exxon Mobil Indonesia, PT Indofood Sukses Makmur, Bank Indonesia to name a few.
In November 2008, the first three Alumni were released: Yusriyanti ( Batch 1), Haililah Tri Gandhiwati and Suryaning Hayati (Batch 2).
